The American science fiction horror television series ‘From’ from MGM+ (formerly known as Epix) is premiering its second season this weekend. Show Tracker reveals where the series landed internationally in its first season and how its varied distribution pathway presents the opportunity for third-parties to secure its second season.
‘From’ was originally developed as a YouTube Red series before the platform pivoted away from scripted development. Epix (now MGM+) now produces it while Paramount serves as its distributor. The series originally premiered in February 2022 in the US on MGM+. It then became available on Amazon Prime during its second window as an SVOD boxset a year later in March 2023, one more benefit for MGM’s new owner Amazon. The series is still having its first window outside the US and across the rest of the globe.
‘From’ is another example of the increasingly common trend of vertical integration that many global services are currently utilising. The series was vertically integrated by Paramount in many markets onto its SVOD Paramount+, with this occurring in Canada, France, Italy, and South Korea. The other global SVOD service that obtained rights was HBO Max, in both Poland and Spain.

The series did have a couple of first windows to local SVOD players. For example, in Australia it went to Stan and in Brazil on Globoplay. And last, outside of MGM+ in the US, it also had other Broadcast first windows. In Mexico, it was released on Universal Premiere while in the UK it was released on Sky Sci-Fi. All of these third party sales occurred despite the presence of Paramount+ in these markets.

Overall, while the series was vertically integrated in many markets, the breadth of distribution pathways for this series represent a fair buying opportunity for third party players. As MGM+ ramps up for the second season, it will be interesting to see which third parties take advantage of the chance to secure atop series for their services.
