Premium Drama & Show Tracker Distribution Trends
The Rook is a premium drama co-production between Lionsgate and Liberty Global. The series premieres on Lionsgate’s Pay TV channel Starz in the US and Canada on June 30th and will appear on their streaming service StarzPlay in a number of other Show Tracker markets. The Rook will feature on Liberty’s platforms across Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, with Lionsgate handling the international distribution elsewhere.
With an estimated budget of $5 million per hour, Liberty’s own investment is likely to represent a significant amount - and in cash terms much more than they typically pay for content on their cable platforms directly. The Rook marks a first foray into the scripted drama market for Liberty Global, and a first co-production.
The series premieres in the UK on July 1st exclusively on Liberty’s Virgin Media platform, on the Virgin TV Ultra HD channel and on-demand.
