In this episode of Inside Content, I sat down with Matt Creasey, Senior EVP Worldwide at Banijay Rights, to discuss how the international distribution business is evolving following the combination of Banijay Rights and All3Media International.
A key theme was scale. Matt explained that bringing together two deep catalogues creates greater opportunities across finished programming, formats, scripted and unscripted content, while also giving the combined business more flexibility across an increasingly fragmented market.
We also discussed changing buyer behaviour. While returning series and recognised IP remain attractive, Matt believes there is still appetite for projects that feel distinctive. In scripted, particularly at the higher-budget end, distributors are also having to think more carefully about risk and when to bring financing partners on board.
Another major focus was monetisation. Across YouTube, AVOD, FAST, self-publishing and social platforms, Banijay’s growing library gives it more opportunities to keep generating value from content long after the initial licensing window. That is increasingly important not only for distributors, but also for producers receiving royalties from back-catalogue titles.
Looking ahead, Matt expects distributors to remain central to both financing and monetisation. As buyers become more flexible around exclusivity and windows, distribution is increasingly about filling funding gaps, finding new audiences and extending the commercial life of content across platforms and territories.
