eir is Irelands largest telecom company, supplying 20% of the population with mobile access and even more with broadband. They are the backbone of Irelands communications, and have been for nearly 20 years.

The Objectives

Telcos are evolving and one of Irelands’ largest, eir, was looking to innovate. Content habits are shifting away from traditional TV and more to the internet. With their 2 million strong customer base and broadband service, it was time to develop a brand-new IPTV service.

To help eir become the first Irish operator to provide quad-play bundles for customers by adding TV, 3Vision was tasked to develop an attractive video proposition and secure the best commercial terms for linear TV channels.

How We Helped

Having helped many operators launch Pay TV services before, we utilised our many years of experience to fast-track the process for eir. The first step was a comprehensive evaluation of the current market. We then developed a strategy, direction and proposition for eir, allowing us to move onto delivering the service and negotiating deals.

Our work included:

  • Developing a strategy and proposition that worked for the market
  • Evaluating the best sources of content to deliver the proposition
  • Creating a business model and managing eir’s budget.
  • Negotiating channel carriage deals on eir’s behalf

The Results

With our efficient and professional approach, eir launched their IPTV service in 2013. We helped eir broadcast over 30 channels across Ireland. We added a further 19 to the service, with no cost to the consumer. The service continues to run and has grown even larger since its launch.

We are delighted to bring our new TV service eVision to market. We were fortunate in having the experience of 3Vision to assist us with our consumer proposition and content negotiations. Their strong relationships and experience have greatly assisted in ensuring a smooth launch.
