This week’s update to Show Tracker brings Japan and Netherlands to our tracked markets, with all shows premiering in the 2020/21 season and beyond to be tracked
Show Tracker now tracks a total of 16 markets including the US, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Mexico, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the UK
Here are some of the buyers in these markets to watch out for.
Japan
Star Channel operates as a Pay TV channel under a group ownership between Itochu, Sony Pictures and Tohokushinsha Film and is Japan’s main home of HBO.
Warner volume deals are currently common across several markets and have impeded the international rollout of HBO Max.
Titles arrive on Star Channel much later than the typical international turnaround due to a market preference for dubbed content.
Nippon TV has licensed the Hulu brand for its SVOD service in the market often acquiring content commissioned by the US Hulu and branding it Hulu Originals themselves. Third party US content originating from other services are also branded Hulu Originals by the SVOD when acquired exclusively in the first window.
Netherlands
Sitting under the RTL Group, RTL Nederland operates several channels in The Netherlands as well as its AVOD catchup service RTL XL and its SVOD Videoland
Catchup on their linear channels are often limited to 7 days, with Videoland taking stacking rights for some of the latest US content.
Ziggo from VodafoneZiggo is a major Pay TV operator in the market with Ziggo Go acting as the catchup service for multiple Pay TV channels.
Within this VOD experience is also Ziggo Movies & Series XL, an add-on providing access to exclusive titles acquired by Ziggo. It serves as Netherlands home of HBO
