Gaming content is big business. In fact, for online video platform Machinima, it’s 150 million monthly viewers big. With their original and library content having established success in the US, it was time to unlock the EMEA market. Game on.

Backed by a global talent network of thousands of creators, Machinima creates and curates digital entertainment content that celebrates the world of gaming and fandom. From huge console titles and blockbuster TV, to animation, cult movies and more, their Many2Many (M2M) programming spans modern pop culture. And since its foundation in 2000, the business has grown to become one of the world’s largest online video platforms.

The objectives.

Following rapid success in its home territory of the United States, Machinima was looking to expand their audience and their business. The goal was to secure premium partnerships and license their catalogue of original and library content across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The team began by conducting a comprehensive market analysis. This enabled us to identify suitable target companies and provide Machinima with a detailed analysis of the content licensing landscape.

From this solid starting point, we then focused on delivering deals. Our work included:

  • Creating sales materials to communicate Machinima's market proposition
  • Pitching to targets, often directly with senior stakeholders - leveraging our extensive network of industry contacts
  • Gathering detailed feedback from meetings at international conferences - including DISCOP Africa, MIPTV, MIPCOM and NATPE
  • Identifying immediate licensing opportunities and developing leads into sales
  • Negotiating commercial terms on behalf of Machinima

Our unique network of stakeholders combined with an in-depth understanding of digital first content enabled Machinima to identify distribution partners in EMEA and negotiate new programming partnerships.

They’ve now successfully launched catalogues of digital first content on leading Pay TV operator and broadcaster services – including Sky (UK) and AMC Networks (Iberia).
